Chihuly Nights – Atlanta Botanical Gardens

Chihuly In The Gardens concludes later this month after a six month encore exhibition of globally acclaimed Dale Chihuly’s spectacular art, displayed throughout the lush, 32-acre expanse of the Atlanta Botanical Gardens (ABG). The exhibit is comprised of 19 Chihuly glass installations, many of which are plant and wildlife inspired. ABG also offers a more comprehensive experience during the evening hours with Chihuly Nights, which offers cash bars throughout the gardens and dinner at Linton’s Restaurant.

A native of Tacoma, Washington, Dale Chihuly began to explore glass as an art form while studying interior design at the University of Washington. After graduation in 1965 he enrolled at the country’s first glass program at the University of Wisconsin. He worked at the Venini glass factory in Venice in 1968 on a Fullbright Fellowship, where he learned the team approach to glass fine art which is key to his work today. Chihuly later started the glass program at the Rhode Island School of Design, where he taught for more than a decade.

Dale Chihuly is the recipient of a host of awards, including twelve honorary doctorates and two fellowships from the National endowment of the Arts. His work is featured in the collections of over 200 museums around the world. Chihuly is famous for his ‘Fiori Di Como’ in the lobby of the Bellagio Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas. The ABG maintains a number of Chihuly works in its permanent collection including the ‘Blue and White’ (fountain) located on the Levy Parterre, and the ‘Nepenthes Chandelier” hanging in the Hardin Visitor Center. There is also a gift shop on site where visitors can purchase pieces to start their personal Chihuly collections.
