The following images are a visual depiction of the local #MarchForOurLives protest for school and gun safety, held in downtown Greenville, South Carolina on, March 24, 2018. Occurring on a breezy, almost wintry, first Saturday of spring, the rally’s attendance was estimated at 2,000 people, exceeding expectations by 100%. There were a number of speakers representing a range of citizens, from youth, to clergy, to congressional candidates. The photos give a flavor of the the breadth of the attendees, as well as the sentiments projected by the signs and placards.
Established in 2005, Artisphere is the annual, signature arts and cultural event for Greenville, South Carolina. Artisphere celebrates the arts as well as the rich international and multicultural flair of the region. Featured work ranges from visual to performing to culinary art forms. The exhibits include ‘Artists Row’, where various artists display and sell art pieces, several performance stages, and an ‘Art Demo Row’, with continuous demonstrations throughout the 3-day event.
The Artisphere’s stated goals include “…providing a high-quality event that attracts, entertains, educates, inspires and enriches a diverse audience and thus brings the community together through the arts”. The festival attracts tens of thousands of visitors and residents annually. With the tagline of “Arts, Culture, Life”, this year’s edition was held May 13-15, 2016.
